Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of both the Program Director and Medical Director, the Assistant Professor/ Clinical Coordinator secures, develops and maintains clinical affiliations and oversees all clinical curricula.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
•Regionally accredited master’s degree required.

•NCCPA Certification required.

•California Physician Assistant licensure or eligibility for California licensure required.

EXPERIENCE:
•Two or more years in education preferred.
•At least two years of experience as a PA in clinical practice preferred.
•At least one year of teaching experience preferred.

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
• PC proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
• Excellent verbal and written skills; able to summarize and prioritize work product and processes; proactive communication with supervisors, peers and team members to maintain efficiency and productivity and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of the skills and tasks performed by a primary care physician assistant.
• Knowledge of the laws and regulations to the practice of physician assistants.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice.
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
• Demonstrated organizational, analysis, planning and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated instructional and presentation skills.

Essential Duties

• Design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate program curriculum: selecting applicants for admission to the PA program, provide student instruction and academic counseling of program students.
• Evaluate student performance and assure the availability of remedial instruction.
• Obtain, secure and maintain clinical affiliations; student placement, clinical site correspondence, affiliation agreements and student assignments.
• Oversee all clinical rotations including issues of overlap, planned redundancy and annual addition/revision of clinical site/rotation materials content.
• Review and approval of clinical year rotation materials (contacts, handouts).
• Development, implementation and assessment of clinical evaluation process; schedule site and preceptor evaluation and student evaluation.
• Evaluate student clinical performance; collect and summarize student evaluation data.
• Counsel students regarding clinical performance.
• Participate in clinical skills training sessions.
• Teach current clinical and didactic curriculum; participate in clinical assignments (proctoring of physical exam checklist, PA rounds, and problem oriented physicals).
• Preparation of documentation and submission of reports for grants, self-studies, annual reports, etc. as assigned.
• Maintain annual files of rotation site administration.
• Maintain student files of academic performance during clinical year, such as major exams per rotation, correspondence regarding clinical rotation progress or any other clinically related activity.
• Refer students with academic, behavioral or professional issues to the director, faculty, or program committee.

Complexity

The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
