Job Description

The HIV Cluster and Drew Center for AIDS Research Education and Services (Drew CARES) seeks to recruit one research faculty for appointment at the academic rank of Assistant Professor.

The University is seeking an individual whose work combines HIV prevention and/or treatment and services research with any of the following areas: substance abuse, mental illness, hepatitis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, or mobile technologies. The University is seeking applicants with research experience and interest in domestic issues (including childhood trauma) affecting Black and Latino populations and/or research experience and interest in international issues related to HIV prevention and treatment in developing countries.

Faculty rank will be determined based on experience and review of dossier material submitted.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
• Regionally accredited Ph.D., DrPH, M.D., or DNP from a broad range of disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., public health, psychology, sociology, anthropology, social/behavioral epidemiology, nursing, health services, behavioral economics).
• Doctoral-prepared applicants may be expected to show evidence of scholarly achievement, including publications and professional presentations, a proven track record in peer-reviewed and externally funded research, and prior academic work.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:
• Track record of research funding.
• Growing research agenda.
• Scientific publications and presentations.
• Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Evidence of community outreach/engagement.
• Evidence of an emerging national reputation.
• Experience in a shared governance environment.
• Experience with or an interest in mentoring students and post-doctoral fellows.
• Experience teaching MPH, Nursing, Life Sciences, Physician’s Assistant or Medical students.

Essential Duties

Participate in the HIV Cluster/Drew CARES by:
• Promoting external and internal positive relationships with departments on campus, and professional and community organizations for increased research collaborations.
• Attending professional, and community meetings.

Maintains faculty responsibility and accountability for:
• Preparing and contributing to research and other scholarly activities.
• Participation in Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing, College of Medicine or College of Science and Health programs and committees, as well other University committees as assigned.
• Teaching load as assigned to meet department/college instructional needs.
• Providing support to students, as well as opportunities for participation in research.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with student and faculty recruitment.
• Participate in and support shared governance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The ability to formulate and implement a clear vision for the department while providing leadership and direction for the faculty, staff, and students is paramount to success in this position.
