Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Postdoctoral Fellow or Senior Research Associate is responsible for a broad range of routine to moderately complex research duties, including working with mice, perform techniques such as MTT assay, immunohistochemistry, RNA extractions, real time PCR, western blots and biochemical determinations. The long-term goal of our studies is to investigate the links between metabolic syndrome and cancer, specifically focusing on the fundamental mechanisms by which elevated blood glucose and fatty acids increase breast cancer risk and progression and to identify novel therapeutic targets and treatment strategies. To achieve these goals, we use multidisciplinary experimental approaches applying both in vitro and in vivo animal models, and high-throughput screening approaches through collaboration with experts in the field.

Qualifications/Requirements:

EDUCATION:
• Regionally accredited doctoral degree (Ph.D., MD.) required in biomedical science related area.

EXPERIENCE:
• Three years related experience in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, RNA extractions, real time PCR, western blots, biochemical determinations, plasmid preparation and analysis, cell transfections; anesthesia, injections, aseptic work, animal handling, and tissue excision.
• Prior statistical experience with quantitative data analysis and proficiency with commonly used statistical/numerical analysis.
• Animal self-administration experience is a plus.

Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
• Laboratory skills needed including ability to perform biochemical assays and molecular biology techniques.
• Computer skills.
• Written and oral communication skills.
• Able to troubleshoot, and resolve technical difficulties.
• Committed in career in biomedical science.

Essential Duties

• The appointment is expected to be full time.
• Duties assigned to these titles will require an in depth knowledge of a specialized field, process, or discipline and may involve organizing and implementing complex research plans, the development of methods of research, testing and data collection, analysis and evaluation, and writing reports (weekly reports and progress reports) containing descriptive, analytical and evaluative content.
• The duties will require the exercise of independent discretion and judgment in carrying out research activities within the predetermined research scope and methodology.
• Participates in research studies to include molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, MTT assay, RNA extractions, real time PCR, western blots, biochemical determinations, plasmid preparation and analysis, cell transfections; anesthesia, injections, aseptic work, animal handling, and tissue excision.
• Maintains inventory and supplies needed for the research.
• Coordinates from various collaborating departments and collaborates with colleagues.
• Responsible for student interns of the research.
• Responsible for statistical analyses of data and writing up results.
• Demonstrates leadership in presentation materials and manuscript preparation.
• Assists divisional staff members and other collaborators in the research.
• Analyzes and records research data, submit weekly reports to the PI.
• Maintains related correspondence and regulatory paper work.
• Presents research papers at meetings.
• Assist the Program Director in mentoring student interns.

• The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
