Job Description

The Division of Cancer Research and Training conducts translational cancer health disparities research. One area of focus uses a wide range of molecular and biochemical approaches to understand the pathogenesis of metabolic disorder-associated breast cancer and discover novel therapies from small molecular agents. This position will focus in metabolic-associated breast cancer research, particularly as it pertains to cancer health disparities. Under the supervision of the Division Chief, Faculty, and Senior Staff, the Research Associate will be responsible for assisting associated faculty and staff to conduct breast cancer research that investigates the molecular mechanisms whereby metabolic aberrations contribute to the tumorigenesis and progression of cancer. The Research Associate will also assist the team by helping to perform scientific experiments and procedures related to models of metabolic disorders, inflammation, and cancer.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
• Regionally accredited master’s degree required in biomedical science related area; prefer PhD or MD.

EXPERIENCE:
• Three years related experience in basic molecular biology/cell biology based research.
• Prior statistical experience with quantitative data analysis and proficiency with commonly used statistical/numerical analysis.
• Animal self-administration experience is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
• Laboratory skills needed to assist in performing basic laboratory assays and some experience with molecular biology techniques.
• Basic computer skills.
• Written and oral communication skills.
• Able to troubleshoot, and resolve technical difficulties.
• Committed to a career in biomedical science with a focus in metabolomics in cancer health disparities.

Minimum Requirements

Regionally accredited master’s degree required in biomedical science related area.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer PhD or MD.
Animal self-administration experience is a plus.

Essential Duties

• Responsible for helping to generate, interpret and summarize data and figures, and execute next experiments required for the project.
• Assist in procedures and projects related to the Cancer Tissue Repository; providing support in tissue culture maintenance, biomarker identification and testing, drug testing, and other basic laboratory assays.
• Assists Faculty, Fellows, and related research members to prepare and submit manuscripts on research data generated and presentations as needed.
• Assists divisional staff members and other collaborators in the research.
• Assist to train new laboratory personnel, students, and collaborators.

• The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
