Job Description

The Nursing Faculty supports and contributes to the college strategic mission, vision, and goals. The responsibility of the nursing faculty is to teach and advise students, securing external funding to support their research, and engage in community service initiatives. The Clinical nursing faculty coordinates all aspects of the nursing skills lab, teach psychomotor skills in the clinical setting, and are responsible for incorporating technology and simulation experiences into student learning.

Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing is currently seeking highly qualified professionals for faculty positions in the following areas:

• Medical-Surgical Nursing
• Pediatric Nursing
• Obstetrical Nursing
• Community Health Nursing
• Psychiatric Nursing
• Fundamentals of Nursing
• Geriatrics in Nursing

Required Qualifications

Regionally accredited Master’s degree in nursing required; Doctorate degree in related filed preferred. Current, valid licensure as a Register Nurse; and/or a Nurse Practitioner in the state of California. 2-5 years of related experience required; and/or 1-3 years of clinical experience in specialty area within the past 5 year.

Knowledge of nursing theories, standards, and practice.
Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act and ability to differentiate between LPN and RN scope of practice.
General knowledge of teaching-learning strategies utilized in nursing education and outcomes assessment
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong time management and organizational skills
Ability to interact diplomatically with a variety of individuals at various organizational levels.
Ability to supervise nursing students and provide direction at a clinical site.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve or recommend solutions to moderately complex problems.
Ability to coordinate student assignments.

Minimum Requirements

Regionally accredited Master’s Degree in nursing required. Current, valid licensure as a Register Nurse; and/or a Nurse Practitioner in the state of California. A minimum of 1 year clinical experience in specialty area within the past 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications

Regionally accredited Doctorate degree in related filed preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates nearing completion of their doctoral education.

Doctoral-prepared applicants may be expected to show evidence of scholarly achievement, including publications and professional presentations, a proven track record in peer-reviewed and externally funded research, and prior academic work.

Occasional stooping. Frequent standing. Constant walking, sitting, climbing, reaching high/low levels, finger movement, feeling, speaking clearly, hearing conversationally, and seeing far and near. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Essential Duties

Teach in clinically based and didactic nursing courses.
Participate in the on-going planning, development, implementation, evaluation of the program; and in the coordination and oversight of clinical experiences.
Develop and distribute course syllabi and participate in the development of required documents such as college, self-studies, and BRN/CCNE reports.
Advise, mentor, and support students. Evaluate students per program policy.
Assist with the direction of student activities ordinarily associated with an instructional program on a University level.
Cooperates with medical and nursing personnel in evaluating and improving reaching and nursing practices.
Participate in Nursing Department and College committees as assigned and participate in community meetings as required.
Contribute to the Nursing Department budgeting process.

Complexity

The ability to contribute to the daily operations of the SON while carrying out faculty responsibilities is critical to success in this position.
