Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Postdoctoral Fellow is responsible for a broad range of routine to moderately complex research duties, including working with the regulation of brown adipocyte function and energy metabolism related to obesity, diabetes and and/or insulin resistance using molecular biological techniques in a small animal model (mice) and mammalian cells with special emphasis on follistatin.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
•Regionally accredited doctoral degree (Ph.D., MD.) required in biomedical science related area.
EXPERIENCE:
• 0-5 years postdoc research experience.
• Prior strong research experience in obesity area and lipid metabolism using mice and mammalian cells/primary cells.
• Statistical experience with quantitative data analysis and proficiency with commonly used statistical/numerical analysis.
• Strong experience working with mice (colony maintenance, genotyping, injection, gavage etc.).
• Molecular /biochemical techniques (minimum requirement: real-time PCR, gene silencing/ overexpression, genotyping, immunolabeling/histochemistry, biochemical assays).
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with other lab members and students as a team.
• Able to troubleshoot, and resolve technical difficulties.
• Capacity to write manuscripts.
• Committed to career in biomedical science.
• Knowledge of optics and microscopy and quantitative analysis of images.
• Proficient with analytical and statistical analysis.
• A proven record of publications in lipid metabolism related to obesity.

Minimum Requirements

Regionally accredited doctoral degree (Ph.D., MD.) required in biomedical science related area.

Three years related experience in molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, RNA extractions, real time PCR, western blots, biochemical determinations, plasmid preparation and analysis, cell transfections; anesthesia, injections, aseptic work, animal handling, and tissue excision.

Prior statistical experience with quantitative data analysis and proficiency with commonly used statistical/numerical analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated strong research experience in obesity area and lipid metabolism using mice and mammalian cells/primary cells.

Essential Duties

• Participate in research studies to include molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, RNA extractions, real time PCR, western blots, biochemical analysis, plasmid preparation and analysis, cell transfections; anesthesia, injections, aseptic work, animal handling.
• Implement and /or design new methods and/or techniques as needed for the project.
• Maintain inventory and supplies needed for the research.
• Coordinate from various collaborating departments.
• Monitor data collection and ensure accuracy of experimental data.
• Plan and organize the execution of research experiments in multiple projects.
• Coordinate the time schedule for experiments on multiple projects with PI’s collaborators.
• Responsible for statistical analyses of data.
• Prepare complete written report on all phases of research.
• Assist divisional staff members and other collaborators in the research.
• Analyze and record research data.
• Maintain related correspondence and regulatory paper work.
• Present research papers at meetings and write manuscripts.
• Prepare and submit manuscripts on research data generated.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
