Job Description

The Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing is currently seeking highly qualified teaching professionals for faculty positions in the following clinical areas:
• Medical-Surgical Nursing
• Pediatric Nursing
• Obstetrical Nursing
• Community Health Nursing
• Psychiatric Nursing
• Fundamentals of Nursing
• Geriatric Nursing

Reporting to the Director of the Entry Level Master’s Program (ELM), the Nursing Faculty supports and contributes to the college strategic mission, vision, and goals. The responsibility of the nursing faculty is to teach and advise students, securing external funding to support their scholarly activities, and engage in community service initiatives. The faculty coordinates all aspects of the nursing educational process (skills lab, lectures), teaches psychomotor skills in the clinical setting, and are responsible for incorporating technology and simulation experiences into student learning.

Required Qualifications

•Regionally accredited master’s degree in nursing required.
•Consideration will be given to candidates nearing completion of their doctoral education.
•Doctoral-prepared applicants may be expected to show evidence of scholarly achievement, including publications and professional presentations, a proven track record in peer-reviewed and externally funded research, and prior academic work.
•Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
•2-5 years of related experience required; and/or 1-3 years of clinical experience in one of the clinical specialty areas within the past 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications

•Doctoral degree in nursing or related field preferred.

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Teach in clinically based and didactic nursing courses.
•Participate in the on-going planning, development, implementation, evaluation of the ELM nursing program; and in the coordination and oversight of clinical experiences.
•Develop and distribute course syllabi and participate in the development of required documents such as college, self-studies, and BRN/CCNE reports/site visits.
•Advise, mentor, and support students.
•Evaluate students per program policy.
•Assist with the direction of student activities ordinarily associated with an instructional pre-licensure nursing program on a University level.
•Cooperates with clinical partner institutions to assure optimal clinical training opportunities for students.
•Participate in Nursing Department and University committees as assigned and participate in community meetings as required.

Special Requirements

•Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
•At times, may be required to being on a hospital floor with up to 10 program students from 8-12 hours a day.
